Dr. Julia Louisa Iafrate is a double Board-Certified Sports Medicine Physician, skier, dancer, and educator who loves spreading the word about health and wellness.

Dr. Iafrate specializes in sports medicine and orthopedics. She’s worked with athletes of all abilities, including Big Ten Conference college football and basketball and professional dancers. She’s a member of the rotating team of physicians for the U.S. Ski Team and serves as the medical director for Fordham Preparatory School.

Dr. Julia Louisa Iafrate is a double Board-Certified Physician in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation who is passionate about maximizing athletes’ physical function and optimizing their quality of life. She’s been named a Super Doctors’ Rising Star in Sports Medicine for the New York metro area for the last several years. Dr. Iafrate provides patient-centered care at several locations in Manhattan, including a dance medicine clinic at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.


Dr. Iafrate specializes in sports medicine and orthopedics. She’s worked with athletes of all abilities, including Big Ten Conference college football and basketball and professional dancers. She’s a member of the rotating team of physicians for the U.S. Ski Team and serves as the medical director for Fordham Preparatory School. She has also worked with many NYC dance schools and was the medical consultant for the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.


Dr. Iafrate is particularly interested in dance medicine, ultrasound-guided procedures, resident education, global health disparities, and nutrition. She loves educating others about healthcare topics, and is the newest host of the Orthopedics show on Sirius XM’s “Doctor Radio.” She is also a peer reviewer for multiple performing arts journals and frequently lectures on dance medicine and musculoskeletal ultrasound at national and international medical meetings.


A former dancer herself, Dr. Iafrate has foot and ankle issues and struggles to find comfortable, supportive shoes that still allow her to do the things she loves. She’s excited to partner with The Good Feet Store to educate others about how to take care of their feet and remain active. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling the world, dancing, boxing, and alpine skiing. Her last name is pronounced “Eye-a-Frey-Tea.” Follow her on Instagram @doctorjnyc.
